Mates in Construction Field Officer

About

Evan Teiti

I was born and raised in the Cook Islands and been in New Zealand for 13 years.

Majority of my time in New Zealand have been spent in Auckland and been in Dunedin for 1 year now. I enjoy interacting with people and bringing a smile to their faces.

So, I guess, that would be my contribution to the team whilst at the same time increasing a suicide-safer environment onsite and in the wider community.  I’ve got a background working in Social Services and Public Health dealing predominantly with families facing hopelessness.

The skills I’ve gained from that and underpinned with the values of empathy, respect and kindness, I’d utilize that with folks working in construction. Naturally, I am a help-offering and giving person. This job allows me to do that on a daily basis.

More importantly, it allows me to speak hope and empower construction workers in to taking action and seeking help with an issue (suicide) that is still taboo in our community.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter walking on St Clair beach. I attend the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Stafford Street on the weekends and try to spend 3-4 times a week working out at the gym. These particular hobbies help me recharge ready for work throughout the week :)
