Good Youth Employer Award

Beth started work at Workforce Central Dunedin at age 21. This was her first fulltime job coming out of University.

Beth found herself in a role that was unstructured but with huge diversity where she could use her initiative and apply her brilliance. Beth said, "Raymond stated at the time of employing me that he saw my potential despite my lack of experience." Beth worked at Workforce Central Dunedin for two years and moved on into a senior role in the government sector. Workforce Central Dunedin is super inspired to have been the place where Beth could start her own initiatives, develop resources for schools, manage staff, organise career expo's, help people find apprenticeships and jobs, deliver training, be a keynote speaker to business groups, exercise her people leadership and coordinator workstream groups of business leaders. Beth created a legacy which lives on through the Workforce Central Project in schools and the wider community. Beth said to the award panel that, "He [Raymond] has treated me as a trusted, competent staff member and has always valued my input highly, regardless of my age, which is unfortunately rare in my"experience.

Workforce Central Dunedin was thrilled to be celebrated for its contribution to supporting young employees at The Diversity Awards NZ™in Auckland.

Being a Gen Z herself and thinking about the reputation of some youth, Beth remarked that, "Young people have a reputation for being lazy, uncommunicative and incompetent, and so often get micromanaged or overlooked." However, Beth stated that she found no evidence of this stereotype in her employer. Beth stated that, "Working at WFCD, I have been trusted to complete tasks independently, create and run initiatives, and have even been given the opportunity to have another staff member report to me."

Beth's remarks were noticed by the panel and for them, this is why Workforce Central Dunedin was entered as a finalist and won the Judges Choice for being a Good Youth Employer.
